'The Doll and cottage' 2009
This is my 1970's doll again, this time painted in a different domestic setting. The cottage is actually a replica of a cross stitch embroidery of mine. An uncanny instinctual decision was made when I got my first home and later become pregnant with my first son, I wanted to nest and make things. The background and the foreground of this painting is busy, a fraught depiction of emotional and intellectual uncertainties. Dolls are often used in Horror films because when they are used out of context they produce horror. I have used the doll and my childhood memories to look at Terror , which I believe is a more feminine experience. Horror is something quite instant and often obvious, whereas terror is a deeper, psychological referenced emotion.
