'I'm coming to get you' 2008
My first painted image of a doll studied from life, I used oil paints and then turpentine to build up layers and then strip them down. I wanted the homemade weave in the background to represent nesting, the overlapping of strips of colour to explore relationships. The doll is a great example of 1950's or 1960's, a doll with a homemade dress on, the dress has a lace collar and handstitched gathering. My childhood was enriched with lots of imaginative play and homemade toys. A child needs to be happy and relaxed to play, this is researched in my paintings and journals. The reality of viewing my work, in the flesh, is uncanny and quite unsettling.
