'Dressing up' 2010

This 'Dressing up' painting, is the child pretending to be mother or just an adult. This painting is a memory of childhood, when I would pretend to be an adult by dressing up an outfit, carrying a handbag and wearing oversized jewellery. I was also a mother to my dolls, my brother and younger sister, whilst I was still a child myself. As a teenager, or even younger when you start secondary school at the age of twelve, you can still feel confused as to whether you are a child or an adult, with a rapidly changing body. My paintings also capture the memories of a childhood because I have only a few actual photographs. My memories are of photographs that were unedited and naturally produced. Photographs in the past had imperfections and people were caught 'off camera'. Too many people now delete images or enhance them technically before they are printed. Home of my childhood was littered with busy mismatched wallpaper, curtains and carpets.
